Back to school: acupuncture for young people

Acupuncture treatments can help your child when they return to school.

At the start of the school year, many parents ask me about the benefits of acupuncture for their children, whether in terms of managing stress related to performance, ways to increase concentration, or to reduce turmoil in class.

It is also at this time of year that some young people will experience digestive disorders, insomnia, outbursts of anger, colds and the flu linked to a fragile immune system.

I then explain that, thanks to the triggering of self-regulation mechanisms, acupuncture promotes a better balance in terms of neurotransmitters, immunity, the autonomic nervous system, blood circulation and tissue oxygenation. This often translates into observable progress in the conditions being treated. In a publication of the Association des acupuncteurs du Québec, it is mentioned that very often, “several (health) problems stem from a single cause in Chinese medicine. The treatment can therefore act on several symptoms at the same time. It is also possible to treat different problems at the same time. »[1]

Acupuncture from an early age

By rebalancing the body's energy, acupuncture can act preventively or when symptoms are already present. In the latter case, it is preferable to have the child treated as soon as possible, in order to limit the number of treatments required to see an improvement in his well-being. Indeed, the number and frequency of treatments depend on the seriousness of the problem, its evolution and its seniority, as well as the vitality of the child.

How is an acupuncture consultation for young people?

Acupuncture needles are very thin. Their insertion is therefore often painless or only causes a brief pinch.

Moreover, young people's curiosity often outweighs their fear of needles. From the first meeting, they will often be able to appreciate the pleasant effect felt at the end of an acupuncture treatment. Other therapeutic methods are also available, if the child is very young or if he is afraid (therapeutic rollers, pressure needle on bandages, magnets, etc.).
